RIDE ALONG PROGRAM
What is the MVRS Ride Along program?
Our Ride Along Program at Mechanicsville Volunteer Rescue squad (MVRS) is an opportunity for the community to Ride Along on emergency calls. By doing the Ride Along program we strive to have the participant fill out an application to join our department as a volunteer.
Who do I contact if I want to participate?
Contact the Mechanicsville Volunteer Rescue Squad Ride Along Coordinator, Charley Ramsey at achief@co29.org. You will need to complete the proper forms. After the forms have been received, we will review your application. If approved we will contact the interested participant. At that time the interested participant will be scheduled for their ride along. When you arrive at the station for your ride time/duty shift, you will be asked to sign a confidentiality statement, HIPAA form and non-member waiver form. If the participant is between the ages of 16-18, they must have a parent or guardian signature. Application forms, to inquire about a ride along, should be submitted a least two weeks prior to the ride along date.
How often can I ride?
Ride Along participants can be granted to ride up to THREE shifts before being encouraged to fill out an application for membership. Subsequent shifts need to be scheduled by the Ride Along coordinator.
How long can I ride at a time?
Ride Alongs can be scheduled between the hours of 7am and 10pm any day of the week. Your shift may be scheduled from 4 to 12 hours, and subject to the discretion of the ride along coordinator or officer in charge.
How should I dress?
We ask that you dress in a plain color t-shirt with no offensive logos, jeans/work pants with no holes and closed toed shoes preferably work boots. Tennis shoes are also acceptable as long as your toes are covered. Do not wear anything offensive. No low cut shirts. No holes in clothes. No shoes with heels.
What should I bring?
At the time of the participants shift they should bring a valid ID and any medical certifications. It is not required to have any medical certifications to complete the Ride Along program. If you decide to join MVRS, the station will pay for all education needed to be a medical provider.
Criminal Record?
A criminal record may be a cause to have your application denied.
